Among older adults, falls are the leading cause of injury deaths, unintentional injuries, and hospital admissions for trauma. Every 14 seconds, an older adult is seen in an emergency department for a fall-related injury.  Falls can take a serious toll on older adults’ quality of life and independence.

To recognize this critical issue, the first week of Fall each year has been declared Fall Prevention Awareness Week.

The chances of falling and of being seriously injured in a fall increase with age.

Falls don’t “just happen,” and people don’t fall because they get older.

Often, more than one underlying cause or risk factor is involved in a fall.

The Good News is many underlying causes of falls can be treated or corrected.

In recognition of this initiative, If you or a loved one are at risk of falling please join Victory Sports Medicine and Orthopedics for a fall prevention seminar and free computerized balance screen.  This presentation will take place at 6:00 pm on Wednesday September 24, 2014 at Victory Sports Medicine and Orthopedics, 791 W. Genesee Street Road, Skaneateles, NY.  Snacks and refreshments will be provided.  Please call at (315) 707-8892 to RSVP.
